Who We Are

Hengequeens are a feminist choir for people marginalised by the patriarchy, singing on Whadjuk country since May 2021.

The Queens sing popular and not-so-popular songs in bespoke 3-6 part arrangements. We choose repertoire by, for and about women and non-binary people, to amplify and promote diverse voices, experiences and creative expressions. Some of our faves have included “Juice” by Lizzo, “Queendom” by AURORA, “Heart To Break” by Kim Petras, “Clumsy Love” by Thelma Plum, and “Cornflake Girl” by Tori Amos.

Hengequeens are directed by musician and academic Dr Claire Coleman. We rehearse on Tuesday evenings at the Country Women’s Association headquarters in Boorloo/Perth, Western Australia. When we’re taking a break from smashing the patriarchy, we eat a lot of cake.
